Premium 15 mil Scrim Vinyl material provides a great deal of opacity
for banner applications. Its opacity minimizes show-through from
sunlight and other factors. Its reinforced layers provide excellent
durability for both indoor and outdoor applications plus the inkjet
coating allows for high-end, water-resistant imaging.
36"x40' roll on 2" core. One roll per box.
Usage Guidelines
Calibration: It’s
always best to calibrate (linearize) your printer each and every time
you change media and/or ink sets. Refer to printer manual for specific
instructions on calibration. Set your printer to “Heavy Coated” printer
setting for best results.
Media Handling:
Scrim Vinyl may be too heavy for your printer. It may be wise to
disable the cutting mechanism and/or cut sheets from your roll. Once
complete, store your finished image in roll form. Avoid excessive
folding of Scrim Vinyl. Image output can vary from lot to lot. It is
recommended that multiple (same job) printing should be printed using
the same lot number materials. Due to the heavy weight of Scrim Vinyl,
material can feed at different rates, causing a difference in print
size – it may be smaller.
Storage Conditions:
Store media in a cool, dry area in temperatures of 70°F (21°C) and
20-60% relative humidity. Always store unused Scrim Vinyl in its
original packaging, but for no more than 6 months. The roll should
always remain suspended on the end caps provided in the original
packaging – never store material flat on its side…doing so may potentially cause image defects within that roll.
Lamination:
Lamination is not required; but can add additional surface
protection. For vinyl, pressure sensitive over-laminates are
recommended. Laminating one side only may cause product to curl toward
laminated side. Let image dry 24 hours before laminating.
Finishing:
For stitched hems, a double stitched hem is recommended. Use a
maximum of 5 stitches per inch. And, keep in mind that the inkjet image
can be scratched, so it’s recommended that the banner be sewn from the
hem side up. This will keep the sewing machine foot from coming in
contact with the image. For a taped hem, use standard high-tack banner
tape. Always follow the tape manufacturer’s guidelines.
Inks:
The best degree of water resistance will be obtained by utilizing
pigment-based inks. Recommended ink coverage is 250% or less. Heavier
ink saturation could degrade the water-fast characteristics. Encad GX™,
Ilford Archiva™, and Colorspan EnduraChrome™ Inks are not recommended,
as premature aging may occur. Dyebased inks can be used with good
success, however, repeated moisture exposure to dye-based inks may
cause bleeding. Although lamination is not required for pigmented inks,
lamination is recommended when using dye-based inks. Total
encapsulation is recommended to eliminate the possibility of bleed
when using dye-based inks. Image should be left to dry for 24 hours
before exposure to moisture.
Input Affects Output:
When generating files for wide format graphics applications, it is
recommended that raster images such as tif, bmp, jpg, etc., maintain a
minimum of 75 pixels per inch (PPI) at final output size. This will
eliminate “jaggies” or “bitmapping” of continuous tone images. Vector
files (usually referring to text and illustrations drawn in software applications
such as Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator) will remain crisp when scaled
up as long as your application does not rasterize the information
(i.e., if imported into Adobe PhotoShop). Acceptable color matching of
vector files to Pantone Matching System (PMS) specifications can be
obtained if your RIP software utilizes proper ICC profiles when
outputting to specific ink/media/output device combinations.
